This is my fourth CAS Card challenge submittal for January! Its been fun to play along and try and keep things Clean and Simple. This time it is my favorite technique WATERCOLOR! The challenge is a CAS water-colored winter card.
I was going for that winter sky look using ink refills as watercolor on Stampin' Up! watercolor paper. I have used many kinds of watercolor paper and I have to say I do like Stampin' Up!'s. It has a smooth side and a rougher side and is almost a white. It really works well with the Stampin' Up! products.
After heat embossing the tree from the "Sheltering Tree" stamp set with silver embossing powder, I taped down my watercolor paper to an acrylic board and wet the entire sheet with a wide brush. I dropped Sea Foam Green, Pool Party and Coastal Cabana ink refills, in that order, from the bottom up, with a small round brush. Trying to leave white, but watercolor will flow where there is water! Go figure. Fun to move the board around and let the color flow into each other.
I left it overnight still taped on the acrylic board until it was totally dry. That way there is very little warping. Next I heat embossed the birds from the new "Golden Afternoon" stamp set and finally flicked watered-down Coastal Cabana reinker over the picture with a larger pointed brush.
The sentiment is also from the "Golden Afternoon" set. For me, this stamp set has the perfect combination of images and sentiments for the cards I need in my life.
