Hi all - welcome! Just a quick blog post to show the details of my card entry for the CAS (Clean and Simple) Watercolor Challenge for this month:
The theme was to highlight reds and pinks using watercolor in some way. I choose a simple design which could be for Valentines, birthday, new baby or just a general "sending homemade kindness" card:
Using Stampin' Up!'s watercolor paper on the rough side, I tape down a one-half sheet onto an acrylic board. Wetting the paper first with a large brush - I then dropped in re-inkers colors of Real Red, Flirty Flamingo and Powder Pink with the darkest in the bottom right and fading to the top left with a wet watercolor brush. I let dry for several days before removing from the board.
Once totally dry, I rubbed the embossing buddy over the color. Next, using Versamark Ink and the Stamparatus, I stamp the sentiment, which is the focal point of the card, several times to be sure there was a good coat of this sticky ink on the rough watercolor paper. Sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat set. I did the same, but using a Clear Block, with the surrounding stars.
To finish, I cut the design out using, what else, but the Rectangle Stitched Framelit. Since the paper had warped slightly I used tear and tape adhesive generously on the back to adhere to a thick Whisper White card base. I'll store it under some wooden backgound blocks to keep it flat until I use it.
Hope you enjoy this card! You can definitely mass produce these type of backgrounds - watercolor a full sheet, just be mindful of your finish design and how you want the color to flow.

I am a wife of 48 years married to my best friend, Mike. He has always been my biggest supporter. We have 3 beautiful daughters and 2 wonderful grandchildren. Also, I am a college graduate, still working full time, and trying to squeeze in every crafting moment possible. Working with my hands, whether it is papercrafting, stamping, painting, cross-stitching, zentangling or quilting - brings joy to my life. I love color in all its various forms.
