Freshly Made Sketches #379 & CI#51

Welcome to my blog post for 2 separate challenges - a sketch challenge combined with a color challenge. Freshly Made Sketches and Colour Inkspiration #51 (closed Facebook Group but anyone can join!):

I wanted to use the "Best Catch" stamp set from the Occasion Catalog. The catalog is expiring end of March 2019 and this set is perfect for that man in your life who loves to fish. I was a bit challenged with these colors for they don't really read masculine.

My first step when I want to watercolor is to make a swatch with the colors to see how they blend together. I knew I would create a brown by blending purple with either color but Berry Burst , so I wanted to avoid that. I stamped 4 trout images on Stampin' Up! watercolor paper using Memento Black Ink and the Stamparatus. I always color many more than I need for usually the last ones are the best!
To color the fish I googled "trout images" and some beautiful images came up with all 4 colors - the underneath of the fish is Berry Burst, next is Mango Melody, next is Pear Pizzazz and the top is Highland Heather. All water-colored with a wet-on-wet technique with the re-inkers and a watercolor brush.
The Very Vanilla base is white heat embossed with the fish hook image all over the card front. Hard to see in the images for it is very subtle. The 2nd card has a Pear Pizzazz background with a little speckled image stamped tone on tone. You've got to love the tiny stamps in Stampin' Up! sets. They create great backgrounds!
Both cards were put together in the same way with a strip made from an Embossing Folder (Pinewood Planks and Corrugated Dynamic), circles from Stitched Shapes Framelits and dimensionals to pop up the fish. The die cut for the fish cuts out not only the image, but the fins, too, so that they can bring more dimension.
Here are 2 of the 4 cards finished, one for Father's Day and one for Birthday!
Fun challenges! If you are a card maker, join in the challenges - it's a way to put to good use your stash! If you'd like to recreate these cards or purchase any Stampin' Up! products, just click on the images below. Thanks for sticking to the end, too!
