Welcome to my Design Team blog post for the Card Concept #137 challenge: "Fun at the Lake":
There were so many inspirational images in this photo, but I thought I would use my new Hero Arts stamp and go with just the lake and the fun at the lake!
The style of my card (as defined on the Card Concept blog post is:
#2. Clean and Layered
Definition:
- clean lines
- lots of layers
- designer papers/embossing
- embellishments/accents
- clean and fresh looking
- some colored images at times
- white space
I made a slimline using Neenah 110 lb. Classic Crest card stock. I cut a layering frame using my Trinity Stamps Stitched Card Panels and Windows. It measures 8 1/2" X 3 1/2". The white base is 8" X 9 1/2" and scored at 4".
I wanted to ink blend the background so that the "lake" only showed through the windows. Centering the frame onto the background I lightly traced around the windows so I knew where the color needed to be. Using Distress Ink Salty Ocean and Mermaid Lagoon and my Scrapbook.com foam blending tool I ink blended in the window and just outside the pencil lines for a nice blue lake. Just one blending tool for blues.
Once the ink blending was dry, I set up my scenes with the stamps...the kids jumping off the pier, the Lochness monster with the ducks and the man & dog fishing with the flying duck. They were stamped with Altenew's Obsidian Black Ink using my MISTI tool. Wonderful ink for a nice crisp black image! I finished with the sentiment "life is better at the lake".
The pier was stamped with the solid image using Simon Hurley's Woof! Grey Ink. The layering stamp with the wood grain images was stamped with Versafine Onyx Black Ink. I fussy cut out the image and glued it to the bottom of the panel. The stamp with the buoys was stamped straight across the bottom with Versafine.
Lastly, I used Cave Crystals from Trinity Stamps to mimic bubbles in the water. In real life they look nice and shiny with an iridescence!
Such a fun theme this challenge and so many directions in which to go. Thanks for sticking to the end and I hope you play along with us. We love to see what you create!
