My painting friend's father is turning 100 soon and our painting chapter was asked to all send a card wishing him well. He is an amazing man - an Airforce pilot in WW II, Korea and Vietnam! Such a special person. I saw this layout from the Fusion Challenge and knew exactly what I wanted to create for him.
This will also be submitted to NBUS #23 because all of the stamps and dies have not been used before.
I started with MFT's Number Jumble background with Versamark ink on this card base I found in my stash. I liked the color for a serviceman, but not sure the brand. Versamark gives a tone-on-tone effect for a little something in the background. I used my MISTI, with the card base in the center (a little tape runner on it) and stamped several times until I felt you could really see the numbers.
The die is from Trinity Stamps called Scripty Birthday Stand Alone Die Set. It has 4 pieces - the 2 words and the 2 outlines. So many ways this can be used, but I went with creating my own striped paper today.
The papers I used are from my stash and mostly from MFT - some are discontinued. I was looking for teals, corals and black. I used Pinkfresh Studio's Essential Collection - Slimline Dies to cut the paper. Of course you could simply cut your own, but this makes it quick and even. I ran tape runner to a piece of copy paper and set the strips of paper in - nudging them next to each other.
I die cut the "Happy Birthday" from both a piece of white card stock and diagonally on the striped paper I created. By using copy paper as the backer for the strips, it keeps the piece thin enough to do a nice die cut. I mixed the white layer into the striped layer and had it ready to adhere once the flag was done.
The flag was cut again with an old die I have in my stash, as well as the numbers. Not very often you get to create those numbers on a birthday card!
I stamped the planes with Altenew Obsidian Black Ink directly onto the white flag and again on some white scraps. I colored the planes on the scraps with a silver metallic pen and added Sakura Gelly Roll Stardust Pen on top (just a little bling) and fuzzy cut them out. I cut off the lights to make it easy, but since I had stamped the planes first onto the flag, they still show. Here is the stamp set from Sizzix called Everyday Sentiments that I used for the planes and the sentiment on the inside "Celebrating You"!
Here is a stamp set a picked up from Ranger, called By The Numbers. A while ago I needed the "th" for a 4th birthday card and I didn't have one! I found this set and it is perfect for it has 2 different fonts for the "th", "nd" and "rd". A very reasonably price set and stamped very well.
So the rest was a simple matter of gluing all pieces down and popping up the wings on the planes. I hope he likes it! We owe him a huge debt of gratitude.
Awesome card for a huge milestone! Great use of the sketch. Thanks for playing with us at The Fusion Card Challenge.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Laurie! You're very welcome.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he won't just like it, Anita. He will love and cherish it and appreciate that it was custom made just for him! I love the way you created your striped paper for making the die cuts. I love the whole design from top to bottom and especially the bold flag sediment and airplane bling to celebrate this momentous and rare occasion!! We certainly do owe him a debt of gratitude! Thank you for sharing with everyone at NBUS! Take care and keep safe! Hugs, Darnell
