Hi crafty friends! Today I am playing along with Happy Little Stampers Watercolor Challenge:
Tim Holtz's Bird Crazy Stamp Set is a classic which I have in my stash for several years now. I pulled it out, along with the coordinating die, to create a get well card for a high school friend of my husband who is on a long road to recovery. I thought a punny bright and cheerful card might give him a laugh.
Whenever I choose to create an ink blended background, I almost always use Bristol Smooth card stock, so the the blend is just that, smooth. In this case, I used 3 Distress Inks: Squeezed Lemonade, Peacock Feathers and Twisted Citron with Scrapbook.com's foam blending tools. Once I was happy with the blend, I flicked some water droplets on the panel, let it set for about 30 seconds, and lifted some of the ink with a blue shop towel. I use these towels because they do not have design on them, they are thicker and hold up better than a paper towel. Available at any Walmart, Target, Lowes, etc.
I used Jillian Vance's Basic Rectangle Backdrop Die Set to get that nice clean embossed edge around the front panel.
You can see the nice edges here:
My little bird was stamped with Altenew's Obsidian Black Ink and watercolored with the Distress Ink colors, but adding in Walnut Stain and some Candied Apple. Once dry, I cut it out using the coordinating die with my Big Shot Machine. Finally I added Nuvo Glaze Crystal Clear to the eyes.
I used i-crafter's Comic Half Tone Dots Stamp to create the speech bubble and exclamation stars around it with the nice crisp dark Altenew Obsidian Black Ink:
I use my Misti Stamp Positioner so I can stamp about 3 times in the same position to get the look I wanted. The word "OUCH" comes from Art Impressions' Doggy Kisses Stamp set. I've used this many many times and usually reach for it when I need some sort of a get well card.
The inside is also from this Doggy Kisses set:I hope this cheers up our friend a bit and gives him a smile. Thank you to Happy Little Stampers for the challenge!

Spectacular card! You've blended the colors so skillfully, and I am really impressed with how you've extended the colors to the bird also.. poor thing could use that color in its life!! Thank you for sharing with us at the HLS Watercoloring challenge!
